Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a quiet, confidential ministry designed to provide one-to-one compassionate listening and ongoing support to those individuals experiencing loss or transition in their lives, such as the death of a loved one, illness, unemployment or divorce.

The Reverend David Voss, our beloved late Pastoral Associate, began the Stephen Ministry program at CPC almost 20 years ago. Stephen Ministers are those lay caregivers in our congregation who have been selected and trained to provide this compassionate Christian care. Currently, CPC has 18 active Stephen Ministers.

The non-denominational, international program requires all Stephen Leaders to undergo a week of intensive training, and all Stephen Ministers to complete a 16-week training program in skilled listening and providing compassionate care lead by Stephen Leaders. Many unseen “Care Partners” have received ongoing, often weekly, confidential care from our Stephen Ministers during life’s transitions and losses.

If you or someone you know would like to be connected with a Stephen Minister, please contact one of our referral coordinators:

  • Linda Oglesby via email, or call the church office.
  • Len Clark via email, or call the church office.

All communications with our referral coordinators are strictly confidential.
